I have a FIRST here at Bookaholic Does Blogging! I am so excited about this! Author Jennifer B. White is stopping by today to run a weeklong campaign where YOU get to pick the new cover for her book, The Witch and the Devil's Son! That's right: you get to pick it! And, to make it even better, she's offering up a personalized copy of the book once the new cover is selected! Read more below:
About the Cover:
The Witch and the Devil’s Son has maintained a 5 star rating on Amazon since it was published. That pretty much means it’s a good read! Jennifer says, “It’s a great story, but it’s hard to get past the cover. At the time the book came out, I didn’t have much input. Now I have an opportunity to give the book a facelift!”
As a Hollywood tagline writer (and screenwriter) who’s worked with designers for film companies like Universal Pictures, Jennifer knows that a good book cover design, like a good movie poster design, is art.
What Goes into a Good Book Cover?
Like the three other books she has coming out this Fall — yes, three more books — the cover art for The Witch and the Devil’s Son is original. Two models, a photo shoot plus designers from Universal Pictures went into creating the unique covers. The title treatment is custom, so you won’t find the fonts in any program on your computer!
“Working on a book cover is a lot like working on a movie poster. It takes teamwork—creative people with good ideas making a creative product that quickly captures the essence of the story. One of the most important things to remember is your target audience,” Jennifer says. “I always remember who’s going to read my books. That’s why I wanted to invite them to have a say in the cover. It doesn’t typically happen like this, but I think it should!”
About the Book:
Witches and Ghosts… just in time for Halloween.
Sixteen year-old Melody is a witch. And in Welbourne, Kansas, she’s as welcome as The Devil. Longing for the counsel of her dead father, Melody attempts to reach him through mediation. But in a trance, it’s not her father she meets, but a treacherous stranger and little black imps. Soon she begins having strange visions that grow in intensity—an ominous sign of what’s to come.
Still, Melody hungers for acceptance, even romance. When she meets newcomer Van Masterson—intelligent, charismatic, but an outcast like herself—she’s dangerously drawn to him, unaware of what his dark past really involves.
Picking up his secret life in a new town, Van forms a cult, collecting lost souls. With his disciples and an ancient spell, Van believes he can open the gates of hell. Then he’ll be crowned the Devil’s son, limitless in what his evil powers can do.
As strange occurrences stir up the quiet town, outraged residents are quick to point the finger at the Witches of Blackstone Farm.
The Witch and the Devil’s Son pits one girl’s faith against the powers of black magic.
