Bookaholic's Blogiversary Bash! : Giveaway #8

Up for grabs in today's Blogiversary Giveaway, I have an e-book copy of Toil and Trouble by HP Mallory!  This series was so cute!  (Check out my review here.)  A huge thanks to the author for contributing this book to my bash!

About the book:
The Underworld in civil war. The cause? A witch who can reanimate the dead. A sexy as sin vampire determined to claim her. An infuriatingly handsome warlock torn between duty and love. Who says blonds have more fun?

After defending herself against fairy magic, Jolie Wilkins wakes to find her world turned upside down—the creatures of the Underworld on the precipice of war.

The Underworld is polarized in a battle of witch against witch, creature against creature, led by the villainous Bella, who would be Queen.

While Jolie has one goal in mind, to stake the vampire, Ryder, who nearly killed her, she also must choose between the affections of her warlock employer, Rand, and the mysteriously sexy vampire, Sinjin.

And as if that weren’t enough to ruin a girl’s day, everything Jolie knows will be turned inside out when she’s thrust into the shock of a lifetime.

Bookaholic's Blogiversary Bash! : Giveaway #6

Up for grabs in today's Blogiversary Giveaway, I have a paperback copy of Truly, Madly by Heather Webber!  This series is sooo cute!  (Check out my review here.)  A huge thanks to the author for contributing this book to my bash!

About the book:
Lucy Valentine is as smart as can be, as single as you can get, and so not qualified to run a matchmaking service. But when her parents temporarily step down from the family business, Valentine, Inc., it’s Lucy’s turn to step up and help out—in the name of love.

Plus, her rent is due.

Here’s the problem: Lucy doesn’t have the knack for matchmaking. According to family legend, every Valentine has been blessed by Cupid with the ability to read “auras” and pair up perfect couples. But not Lucy. Her skills were zapped away years ago in an electrical surge, and now all she can do is find lost objects. What good is that in the matchmaking world?

You’d be surprised. In a city like Boston, everyone’s looking for something. So when Lucy locates a missing engagement ring—on a dead body—she asks the sexy private eye who works upstairs to help her solve the perfect crime. And who knows? Maybe she’ll find the perfect love while she’s at it…

Up for grabs in today's Blogiversary Giveaway, I have the entire Colorado Trust Series by Stacey Joy Netzel!  This series includes Trust in the Lawe, Shattered Trust, and Shadowed Trust (just released October 14th).  The winner will receive a signed paperback copy of each book.  A huge thanks to the author for contributing this book to my bash!

About the books:

Kendra Zelner has three brothers: Eight-year old Noah she's determined to protect, Joel who has no clue she exists, and Robert who wants her dead.

With reason to be distrustful of cops, she takes Noah and flees their Manhattan home for Joel's ranch in Colorado. Under the pretense of needing a job, she plans to hide out until her twenty-fifth birthday, when she'll inherit her trust fund and legally gain custody of Noah away from Robert's greedy hands. Unfortunately, her brother's sexy, infuriating ranch manager insists on demolishing her defenses and digging into her past.

Colton Lawe has good reason to suspect Joel's beautiful, long-lost sister isn't what she seems—the little liar stole from him! He silently vows to expose her secrets, but long hours together on the ranch fosters a closeness and fiery attraction neither of them expects. Can Kendra trust Colton with the full truth before Robert finds them?

He knows everything, including that she hates her job and that she is not quite sure she loves her boyfriend. Follow Friday (32)

This week's question is: If you could Weicharacters from a book meet and form an epic storyline with characters from a TV series, which characters would you choose and why?

I'm with Parajunkee on this one -- I'd love to see Buffy and her gang back in action.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE them.  =)

If you're stopping by, be sure to come back tomorrow when I kick of my 1st Blogiversary Party!!

You Pick the Cover Results!

Author Jennifer B. White didn’t expect to have thousands of people check out the 11 prospective book covers for the re-release of The Witch and The Devil’s Son, but that’s exactly what happened. The results surprised her.

“I’d already thought I knew what readers would like. In fact, I was prepared to use a different cover, but there was a clear choice. Young Adult readers favored Numbers 2 and 11 on the site we’d set up. Neither of them were the one I was leaning towards!”

Number 2, pictured left, came out as the voter’s favorite choice, and as a result will be used as the new book cover. It was very different from a close second choice, Number 11 that was more romantic.

“This was a really exciting experience. It was also humbling. While a story still has to be crafted by the Author, it’s good to check in with your readers to make sure you’re on target.”

Six winners were chosen from a drawing of all the voters.

Congratulations to :
Sarah (Workaday Reads), Melissa (Melissa’s Eclectic Bookshelf), Marlene, Danielle, Allie, and Dee

You pick the cover Giveaway!

I have a FIRST here at Bookaholic Does Blogging!  I am so excited about this!  Author Jennifer B. White is stopping by today to run a weeklong campaign where YOU get to pick the new cover for her book, The Witch and the Devil's Son!  That's right: you get to pick it!  And, to make it even better, she's offering up a personalized copy of the book once the new cover is selected!  Read more below:

About the Cover:
The Witch and the Devil’s Son has maintained a 5 star rating on Amazon since it was published. That pretty much means it’s a good read! Jennifer says, “It’s a great story, but it’s hard to get past the cover. At the time the book came out, I didn’t have much input. Now I have an opportunity to give the book a facelift!”

As a Hollywood tagline writer (and screenwriter) who’s worked with designers for film companies like Universal Pictures, Jennifer knows that a good book cover design, like a good movie poster design, is art.

What Goes into a Good Book Cover?
Like the three other books she has coming out this Fall — yes, three more books — the cover art for The Witch and the Devil’s Son is original. Two models, a photo shoot plus designers from Universal Pictures went into creating the unique covers. The title treatment is custom, so you won’t find the fonts in any program on your computer!

“Working on a book cover is a lot like working on a movie poster. It takes teamwork—creative people with good ideas making a creative product that quickly captures the essence of the story. One of the most important things to remember is your target audience,” Jennifer says. “I always remember who’s going to read my books. That’s why I wanted to invite them to have a say in the cover. It doesn’t typically happen like this, but I think it should!”

About the Book:
Witches and Ghosts… just in time for Halloween.

Sixteen year-old Melody is a witch. And in Welbourne, Kansas, she’s as welcome as The Devil. Longing for the counsel of her dead father, Melody attempts to reach him through mediation. But in a trance, it’s not her father she meets, but a treacherous stranger and little black imps. Soon she begins having strange visions that grow in intensity—an ominous sign of what’s to come.

Still, Melody hungers for acceptance, even romance. When she meets newcomer Van Masterson—intelligent, charismatic, but an outcast like herself—she’s dangerously drawn to him, unaware of what his dark past really involves.

Picking up his secret life in a new town, Van forms a cult, collecting lost souls. With his disciples and an ancient spell, Van believes he can open the gates of hell. Then he’ll be crowned the Devil’s son, limitless in what his evil powers can do.

As strange occurrences stir up the quiet town, outraged residents are quick to point the finger at the Witches of Blackstone Farm.

The Witch and the Devil’s Son pits one girl’s faith against the powers of black magic.
